Are you suffering from Fibromyalgia? Maybe here is your answer you are looking for.
Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain condition associated with depression, fatigue and sleep disorders, and has on average affected at least 1 in every 20 people worldwide. In order to counter and cure the condition, research has revealed that over 90% of the patients make use of some therapeutic treatment, such as massage, hydrotherapy, EFT or acupuncture.
Various clinical trials have been carried out in order to reveal the advantages and disadvantages of acupuncture-based treatment for fibromyalgia. One of those clinical trials included selection of 153 random people, all of whom were diagnosed with the condition.
Participants were given random treatments for 9 weekly sessions, each around 20 minutes long. Treatments included use of usual painkillers and antidepressants, as well as simulated and tailored acupuncture. Their chronic pain was evaluated during, and up to 12 months after the 9 week session.
Analysis showed that people after 10 weeks had shown major improvement in their chronic condition when given tailored acupuncture treatment, as compared to the simulation method. After a year of evaluation, results showed that 20% of the people given acupuncture had significant improvement in their chronic condition.
FIQ scores had also differed significantly, with around 22% reduction for real acupuncture, as compared to just 5% for the other after a period of 12 months. The amount of fatigue, depression, anxiety, as well as physical changes such as tender points and pressure pain threshold had also shown great improvement within the group.
Side effects did exist for the treatment, but were of little or no significance, which further helped the researchers conclude that tailored acupuncture may indeed be a possible treatment for fibromyalgia. Studies like this can open further avenues of effective fibromyalgia treatment using acupuncture which decidedly target pain relief, decrease in fatigue and neurotic symptoms.
